YOUNG Motorcycle Club hosted round five of the Wannabrook racing series at "Bunyarra" last Sunday with riders from Albury, Griffith, Leeton, Orange, Wagga Wagga, Goulburn, Forbes and further afield attending the meeting.
Many of the top riders in the Opens and Expert classes from around the state competed in some tough races with several excellent local performances to round out the day.
Young Motorcycle Club President Andrew Seery described the event as historic.
"We had record numbers of competitors and spectators," Seery said.
"The entire day was perfect with beautiful weather, great track conditions, a good crowd and some of the most exciting moto cross racing seen in the region.
"We had full grids in almost all categories and the locals rose to the challenge with some great racing and very close finishes," Seery added.
In the opens three professional riders from Wagga Wagga, Mark Kirkman, Luke and Joel Passlow fought out the main racing with Mark Kirkman taking out the title in the Open, however, Luke turned the tables on Kirkman in the over 2500cc experts class.
Local rider Brett Hardy performed extremely well finishing 12th in his first season against the seasoned pros.
Brett also won his class in the Clubman series which also produced some exciting racing with local rider Casey McInerney again having a great dual with Brett to finish a close third.
Other Young Club members to do well were Hayden Mellross winning his 85cc class and Jordan Mellross wining both his 85 & 65cc classes.
Darren Wilder had a great day finishing fourth in the Over's class against some stiff competition and the inform Craig Taylor.
Kyle and Sam Hardy finished second and third respectively in their 125cc-250cc class both showing great skill to be placed. Jake Crea also finished a strong fourth in his 85cc class racing against much older boys.
It was also great to see a large number of rider entries from the nippers and 50cc class and all those young boys and girls had a great day out racing.
The day was also round two of the Young Tyrepower Championship series with local riders being scored for that event as well.
Club President Andrew Seery said that everything ran very smoothly on the day.
"Racing conditions and the track were appreciated by all of the riders with many visitors labelling it one of the best tracks in the region,” Seery said.
"The outstanding days results could not have been obtained without the help of the same club members and committee members who put in many hours of their own time to prepare for these events and also our many sponsors including our club sponsor Young Tyrepower.
The next race meeting in Young will be on September 7 for round three of the Young Tyrepower Championship series.
