Trots season opener

3/10/2008 12:21:00 PM
The Young Harness Racing club resumes racing today with a strong eight race TAB programme.

The first race is set for 12:56pm and is the first of the heats that will see contestants battle for a place in the $7000 finals next Friday. The Wagga trained pacer Franco Namesake looks a special here following some excellent performances at the Wagga track in recent weeks. Having scored three wins in four starts the draw looks ideal for this promising pacer. The place getters should be Voluptuous, Ebony Otara who has shown improvement in every run and Velox Hanover from the strong David Kennedy stable.

In race two Kerry Ann Turner takes the drive on Toronado and from barrier two again looks a good thing. The form over recent weeks suggests that a win is just around the corner following some impressive placings and it may be the start of a big day for Kerry Ann. The minor placings should include So Telah Abbey, Blue Rapids and the somewhat unpredictable Runacullen.

Moving on to race three and here the selection is for Acesndiamonds to qualify for the final for Junee reinsman Steven Harris. This pacer has had two wins and two placings from five starts and looks to have the credentials to win this. For the minor placings and first four players the chances are Kid Courageous, Perfect Sweetart who has been freshened for this and Elakasa Oceanstormat good odds.

Race four of the heats is a little harder with a number of chances, the strongest being Tellusomethin from gate six for Dennis Picker, Shania Jadestar who is knocking on the door, Winsome Roy and Fast Sticks from gate one. The “Smokey” in this race could be the Bathurst trained Wyandah who also has had two wins from four starts and is well drawn.

Moving through the programme to race five we see Kerry Ann Turner again given a great chance, on her dads trained pacer Ollys Rear View. With wins at his last two starts he looks the winner from the Murringo mare Sunshine Daisy, whilst Polo Woodbury and Vancellini Castle should fill the minors.

In race six again we come to a tricky race for punters, possibly Druids Ace from gate four has claims with Polo Croupier and the consistent Macs Jag best of the rest together with Polo Beachley who deserves to collect some cash following recent outings.

Short odds and civility should be the order of the day in race seven when the David Druitt trained pacer Fleurieu (Fluro) steps out. Winning three in a row in recent weeks at Wagga she should lead throughout and prove to strong for Barabas, Loony Limbo and Elakasa Oceanliner in the first four contest.

The lucky last, race eight is the Young Hotel fast class, Kickforcash being the selection in a hard race from The Fire Inside, Sir Charge and Expensive Halter. This will be the first of three meetings for the Young club in October, the outlook looks very good and it is expected that fields will increase in size as the season progresses. The club will again provide a full betting service and refreshments will be available.
