Locals excel at Polocrosse carnival

A GROUP of local Polocrosse competitors travelled to Jugiong last weekend to compete at a carnival in several games on Saturday and Sunday.

The group enjoyed a beautiful Christmas in July dinner catered by the Jugiong Polocrosse Club on Saturday night, with decorations and carols and a wonderful roast dinner.

In competition the local A Grade Open side beat Jugiong to take out first place.

This team was made up of Michael Clark, Shanie Moore and Shane Piper, and the locals teamed up with Tumbarumba players Ben and Sam Johnson and Richard Daniels.

The B Reserve Open team also won, with players Shane Ross, Andrew Hunter, Andrew Smith, Rod Debritt, Tegan Lawrence and Snow Grills.

The C Grade Mixed side, consisting of Brett, Sarah and Claire Monogue, Brenton Ward, Jenna Henshaw and Nicole Grills, won their division in the round robin tournament.

Local boy Ben Bennett was recently accepted to the NSW representative side, and as a practice run this team played Harden, and in a gruelling match lost by one point in extra time.

All the kids involved had a great time, playing four games over the weekend. The kids that went away to the tournament were Gabby, Jordan and Jacob Bennett and Crystal Benson.

The Tumut carnival will be held in Tarcutta on August 2 and 3, and several players will be travelling to compete, hoping for great results like those achieved last weekend.
