HUNDREDS of cars and travellers in the Queensland Variety bash have taken the opportunity to come south of the border and take in the sites of our own region, stopping off in Young on Wednesday as part of their 2,300km journey to raise money for Variety.
Like the NSW Variety bash that passed through Young in August, each car load pays its own way, directing all money from donations straight to the children’s charity, meanwhile spending lots of money in each town as well as making localised donations at regular stopovers.
Starting in Toowoomba, the Queensland rally drivers have had overnight stops in Dorrigo, Barraba, Mudgee, Bathurst and Cowra on their way here, stopping in every town they pass through to raise money and entertain with their antics.
In Bathurst on Monday they all did a lap of the Mt Panorama Circuit as a taste of things to come and while stopping in Cowra, they made a gift of a wheelchair to one young girl, Grace Murphy.
On Wednesday, they continued on to Temora on the easiest leg of the journey, then on to Lake Cargelligo yesterday and Parkes tonight before they head to the finish line at Bathurst for the V8 Supercars tomorrow and Sunday.
In Bathurst tomorrow, the top 10 fundraisers of the trip will earn the right to take a lap around the course in front of the massive crowds, while everyone is having a big bash party throughout the weekend.
