FOUR males have been charged after an altercation with an off duty police officer and his wife at a police residence in Young.
At about 8.45pm on Tuesday night an off duty police senior constable who resides in the home next to the Young Police Station went to investigate noise at the front of the premises.
A group of males who appeared to be intoxicated are reported to have abused the officer who contacted police radio with a request for on duty officers to attend.
One man allegedly kicked the fence, breaking the gate and entering the front yard with a brick in his hand.
Police allege that the brick was thrown at and narrowly missed the officer. A physical altercation then ensured with the two other males observed throwing bricks at the officer and residence.
The officer’s wife was also threatened and she summoned urgent assistance. Police arrested a 40-year-old in the front yard. Three other males were arrested nearby a short time later.
The 40-year-old man was charged with 12 offences including use of an offensive weapon to commit an indictable offence. The man was injured and transported to Wagga Base Hospital.
The matter will be investigated by an independent critical incident investigation team from Goulburn. The 40-year-old was to appear in Wagga court yesterday, although the case was adjourned due to his hospitalisation.
Another 21-year-old man was charged with 10 offences, and was bail refused at Wagga Court on Wednesday. The case has been stood over until August 27.
A 16-year-old youth was charged with 11 matters.
A 25-year-old man was charged with hinder police and granted conditional bail.
