THE Saturday of the October long weekend is almost here and that means that Bribbaree Show will be on this
Saturday, October 4. This is the Show with the reputation of the best one day show in the south west, and that description has not been easily earned. Firstly, the showground admittance prices are one of the lowest around, with adults charged only $8, pensioners $5 and children 8-16 years just $2. That’s a pretty good start for a day offering lots of family fun.
As with all the shows, after last year’s horse flu setbacks, the rings will be well patronised as competitors strive to accumulate points to enable them to compete in the big royal shows. For the first time, Bribbaree is conducting classes featuring miniature horses and ponies which should provide much new interest.
On the southern side of the ring, there will be motor bike time trials for kids with bikes, these being run in two sessions, 10.30am to 1pm and then 1.30pm to 4pm. Competitors will be divided into three divisions, namely infants, primary and high school and open, with good prize money on offer for an outlay of just $5 each for unrestricted morning or afternoon rides, or both if you want!
The Secretary’s office will once again feature entries from the district small schools in colouring and handwriting and just beside there, a petting paddock will be operating with a resident face painter in place, and there is no charge for either of these attractions.
Then, just behind the luncheon pavilion, which is quite famous for its meals and teas, the Championship Dog Show will take place, while over towards the north there will be Yard Dog trials, sheep and lamb classes and poultry.
Further away from these areas, there will be a team penning competition being conducted with all its thrills, and of course in the middle of all this activity stands the main pavilion with the display for which this Show has become well known.
One thing that hasn’t been previously enjoyed at Bribbaree Show before is two sessions of great entertainment from the ‘Counterpoint’ group who will perform at 12.30pm and again at 2pm just before the official opening. And of course after that, there will be the family fun games.
Add all this to the chance to have a game of mini golf or ride the mechanical bull just beside the barbeque area and you have all the ingredients for a great day out!
See you at Bribbaree Show Saturday, October 4.
