Crisis accommodation secure

25/07/2008 8:30:00 AM
THE Young Crisis Accommodation Centre is finally moving into their new house, dedicated to providing safe and secure housing for victims of Domestic Violence throughout the region.

Member for Burrinjuck Katrina Hodgkinson, visiting Young yesterday to inspect the new house, said that she was overwhelmed at the Centre’s great achievement.

“When I remember what the situation was a year ago and what Ms Bruce said was needed it is fantastic to see the results now,” Ms Hodgkinson said.

The new house is able to accommodate up to 12 people in a safe and comfortable environment, with four bedrooms, a lounge room, fully equipped kitchen, laundry, bathrooms and dining area.

Ms Bruce of the Young Crisis Accommodation Centre explained that clients could be entirely self sufficient and safe in the new accommodation.

“Families will be able to feel secure in the new house, take time to themselves and conduct as normal a routine as possible with the great facilities,” Ms Bruce said.

“The most amazing part is that 90 percent of the funds were raised from the community at large with the rest coming directly from the Shire Councils of Young, Harden and Boorowa.

“Everyone in the region was so generous, recognizing the strong need for the service and now we have the facilities for people from Young and surrounding towns owned by the community outright and here forever.”

The Centre will be holding a morning tea at the administration offices on Wednesday August 13 to celebrate the opening and say thank you to the community for their support and generosity over the past year and more.

“A very special thank you to the entire community, and to Gwen Gunning and her husband Jeff and my own family who have helped so much and put up with so much.

“And a huge thank you to Katrina for all the support and advice she has given us over the last year,” Ms Bruce said.
